Created by Masashi Tentaku from the Japanese graphic/product design firm, D-BROS, Kudamemo (derived from the Japanese word Kudamono, meaning fruit) is a beautifully executed, three-dimensional sticky notepad, designed in the form of finely cut apples and pears.  Each contains 150 sheets and its stem is made from tree branches.  The very appetizing notes are even nestled in foam netting.  They can be purchased online from Japan, either individually or in a box of six – similar to the way real fruit is cutely packaged. 

Damn, they look so tempting!  Now I’ll really have to think more than twice NOT to pop a slice into my mouth.

China’s no stranger to weird advertisements, but this latest one takes the cake. A Chinese lingerie company called Jealousy International (how…creative?) has launched a new line called “Diana” in honor of the thirteenth anniversary of Princess Diana’s death.

The advertisement for the line features a portrait of Lady Di playing a cello in front of a child. But that’s not all–in the ad, she is seen wearing only a bra, a pair of panties, and a tiara. The tagline reads, “Feel the romance of British royalty, Diana underwear.” You know, because nothing says romantic and classy quite like a scantily clad dead princess.

Not surprisingly, the British public is livid.

Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, President Barack Obama, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Jordan’s King Abdullah II got all kinds of gangsta’ when they walked into the East Room of the White House together to chat about Middle East peace negotiations yesterday in Washington.

These are 5 of the most powerful men in our world and to see them walking together like that in one straight line decked out in black, crisp suits is pretty thug don’t you think?

Russell Gilbert Llantino is known by his fans as D-Pryde and made a name for himself as a rapper and producer at just 15-years-old. Llantino, born and raised in Canada, is of Spanish and Filipino descent. Setting aside his young age and his ethnicity, what really separates D-Pryde from other artists is his talent. Like a lot of artists these days, D-Pryde posts videos and covers on his official YouTube account. In addition to rapping, D-Pryde also creates comedic shorts on a separate YouTube account.

He recently teamed up with fellow YouTube artist Tamra Davis to cover Drake’s hit song, Fireworks.  Check it out below!

One of the absolutely wonderful things about growing up an APA is to befriend people from racially diverse backgrounds and, as a natural result, to be able to teach them a thing or two about your own culture. As a Korean American, I’ve personally enjoyed welcoming my “foreign” homefries to the wonderful world of chopsticks, dolsot bibimbap, and Daniel Henney…among other things.

But the one form of recognition that I truly delight in the most is when my friends randomly tell me about their other beloved Korean friends or some influential Asian that they met on their life journeys. Most of the time, the only thing I share in common with these lovely strangers is my Asian ethnicity, but my friends still feel compelled to directly involve me by emphasizing on the Asian-ness of their positive experiences. I have discovered that it doesn’t matter whether they are constantly surrounded by other Asians or if befriending me popped their “token Asian friend” cherry, but my buddies absolutely love to inform me of their close encounters of the Korean/Asian kind.

Here’s how it usually goes down:

Me: Hey, so do you believe that peace will ever be achieved in the Middle East?
Non-Asian Friend: Omg, I saw/heard a Korean/Asian on the street today!
Me: !!!

Me: Hey, so what are your thoughts on thermodynamics?
Non-Asian Friend: Oh, I made a new Korean/Asian friend! (then proceeds to tell me the friend’s life story)
Me: !!!

Me: I just thought of the one-and-only answer to the meaning of life.
Non-Asian Friend: Uh-huh, I’m dating a really great guy/girl and guess what? He/She is Korean/Asian!
Me: Dude, share the wealth, I have to marry an Asian guy to remain alive, remember? But yeah…!!!

Sure, I would selfishly like to remain their sole beacon of Korean/Asian friendship light, but hearing my friends’ excitement over meeting fellow APA brothers and sisters actually brings me great joy. Every mention, story, anecdote lets me know that my friendship is being valued in such a way that my racial and cultural background is comfortably seated in the backs of their minds. I find myself doing the same thing with my non-Korean, Asian friends as well, and they all seem to have similarly slap-happy responses as me.

Friends are what make life worthwhile, especially the APA ones!

Even though Asia is well on its way to be the permanent powerhouse to beat in the global economic heavyweight division, it’s still hard for me to believe that it could someday unseat the ultimate GDP champion: U.S. of A. As a life-long American historyphile, I’ve been inculcated to believe that our beloved “shining city upon a hill” has the goods to remain on top for…well, forever. Sure, all great things must come to an end and other illustrious nations have met their unexpected demises, but c’mon, the red, white, & blue has to be the ONE exception, no?

Well, my bubble of naive optimism is going to be popped a lot sooner than I thought after coming across an interesting International Business Times interview with noted financial commentator and wealthy American investor, Jim Rogers. After continuously praising the Asian economy and moving his entire family to Singapore, Rogers expressed his astute belief that his future descendants stand a much better financial chance in Asia:

In 1807, if you had moved to the U.K., you and your heirs would have been much, much better off for the next 100 years. If in 1907 you had moved to the U.S., you and your heirs would have been much better off for the next 100 years.

In my view, moving to Asia in 2007 means my heirs are going to be much better off in the next 100 years.

Definitely something to make you go hmm….
