This Is Only The Beginning

lxdChapter10_20100823_aatheory

The finale of the first season of Jon M. Chu’s The LXD occurred last Wednesday. The web series completed its origins arc with the introduction of tormented soul, Copeland (Chris Scott) as well as concluded its tenth chapter with the Epilogue. Though, I’m not sure if it should be called an epilogue since the series is far being over.

I do love seeing how the series experiments with different visual styles for their episodes. The spoken word incorporation in the narration tickled me with joy and the musical score, which was done by Paul Dateh, enhanced it tenfold.

It’s also great to see the return of all the LXD recruits especially that of Justin Starr (Jeremy Marinas) and Elliot Hoo (Harry Shum, Jr.), a few of our AA representatives in the series.

Also, heads up LXD fans! You can download the first episode of The LXD, “The Tale of Trevor Drift” for FREE on iTunes here.

Watch The LXD web series on Hulu. Second season will be up soon.

(Random thought, but did the last few scenes remind anyone of The Sound of Music and Xavier Institute for Higher Learning/X-Mansion from X-Men comics?)

Fancy Shoes, Fanboyz & International Viewing

A few of months ago Jon M. Chu’s web series The LXD: The Legion of Extraordinary Dancers was launched through Hulu and it has already been called “a game-changer in the way that web series – and the arts – are presented online” by Mashable.com.

For a web series that uses nothing but dance moves in lieu of special effects, it definitely has kept my interest these few but short months. Each episode leaves me wanting more and I could not have been more excited for Glee’s Harry Shum Jr.’s character episode. Shum plays Elliot Hoo, an unsuspecting regular person with no super powers until he bonds these special shoes called the X7. (Think something like Marvel’s Venom Symbiote from the Spider-man comics.)

I knew previously that Shum was a well-known dancer and choreographer, but his footwork in this episode was insane! It blew my expectations out of the water.

Spanish Buzz Got His Moves From Professionals

tcTSY3dance_20100802_aatheory

Disney/Pixar’s final installment to the Toy Story franchise, Toy Story 3 premiered over a month ago and if you haven’t seen the film by now, my inner child is thoroughly disappointed in you. (You should go see it. I saw it twice. First time was at the premiere and the second time to find the Pixar Easter eggs.)

If you have seen the film, then I just want to say that one of my favorite parts of the film was Spanish Buzz. All of his scenes just screamed Spanish telenovelas and I wished they left him in a little longer. His character was an epic win for me.

Another win for me was the paso doble dance that Buzz and Jessie did at the end of the film. The paso doble dance that Buzz and Jesse did was choreographed by two of Dancing with the Stars’ professional dancers, Toni Donolani and Cheryl Burke. Burke is of Russian, Irish and Pilipino descent and has been with the Dancing with the Stars’ for nine of its ten seasons.

Watch his awesome moves after the jump!

AGT Recap: Bikes Over Belly Dancing

americaGotTalentLogo_20100731_aatheory

The third batch of twelve contestants from the Top 48 performed and competed this past Tuesday and Wednesday on America’s Got Talent.

I’m a bit surprised to say that the last two remaining acts reppin’ the APA community were among the performers this week. I was hoping that at least one of the two would be on this week and the other is on the show next week. Guess that was all in my head.

The last two APA acts performing this week were singer, Luigi Seno and the belly dancing duo, Kaya and Sadie.

Kids These Days Are Amazing

I generally think that kids are awesome in the sense that they have the power of being adorable or annoying. They are the future and what not, but when you add feats such as speaking 11 different languages like Forbes-featured Wendy Vo (who was 8 years-old the time this was recorded):

Or completing 17 air flares like 8 years-old bboy Anjelo ”Lil Demon” Baligad:

Then that’s pretty much beyond amazing.

I mean when I was their age I was not doing any of that. Is it me or are there a lot of younger children these days that can perform acts that usually take years to perfect? Or maybe this is a normal thing to do now.

The LXD Is Finally Here!

lxd_trevor

Back in December we reported the upcoming launch of writer/director Jon M. Chu’s highly anticipated web series, The LXD: The Legion of Extraordinary Dancers. After waiting for about half a year or so, I am pleased to announce that at long last, The LXD is finally here! I’ll forgive the long wait as these dancers were quite busy with, you know, performing at the Oscars and opening for the Glee Live 2010 Tour. Little stuff like that.

Hip-hop dancers are the superheroes in this series and dance is used as a weapon. Ordinary people find out that they are blessed with this special power, but will they use their newly discovered abilities for good or for evil? There’s only one way to find out.

Fun fact: The LXD actually started with a voicemail from Miley Cyrus, of all people. In 2008, she complimented the dancer Adam Sevani on his work in Chu’s film “Step Up 2: The Streets” and then hung up. Thanks, Miley.
