
Just to be clear: I’m not a Twilight fan. I’ve tried giving it a fair chance, but the novels are so cliché and cheesy that I stopped at the back cover summary. I just can’t get into it, but I like the metaphorical cover art though. The use of black, red, and white colors with the chosen images (apple, flower, ribbon and chess pieces) made it look interesting to read. But you know the saying, “Don’t judge a book by its cover.”
That being said, I have never seen any of the movies either. So, what made me watch a parody movie of Twilight? Double feature films at the drive-in theater. The Other Guys was playing after Vampires Suck. Might as well get there early, find a good spot, watch and wait.
So, since I haven’t seen any of the Twilight movies, I was basically lost during most of the film, but my cousins who have seen the Twilight films filled me in on what I didn’t know.
Apparently, Jenn Proske who plays Becca Crane, the film’s version of Bella, did a great job at nailing original Bella’s awkwardness in speech and mannerisms. Again, I’m just going with what I was being told, but I found her character to be funny. If the film is supposed to be poking fun at unsaid truths about the Twilight series, then I guess Bella is a closet freak. (If you watch Vampires Suck then you’ll get what I mean.)
It was surprising to see how many Asian American actors were in the film. I counted three: Ken Jeong, Jun Hee Lee, and Brian Philip Cruz.
