SFIAAFF is Almost Here!

The other day I was walking through one of San Francisco’s many MUNI train stations when I saw a new advertisement posted on the wall that literally made me convulse in excitement.

The ad on the wall is the image posted above and for all of you AAs who live close to the Bay Area and South Bay totally know what this means, right?

Yup! It’s almost here! The 28th Annual San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival is almost here!

The SFIAAFF which is presented by the Center for the Asian American Media (CAAM) will take place next month on March 11th to the 21st and will be showcasing in three cities: San Francisco, Berkeley and San Jose.

It is THE largest showcase of Asian and Asian American talent in the film from all over the United States as well as from many other countries such as the Philippines, Japan, Thailand, China, etc.

It is also the only place where you will see Asians and Asian Americans portrayed right. Not as some obscure caricature of a stereotype we see of Asians, but as regular people going through situations that we all can relate to.

With over 120 film pieces being shown at SFIAAFF 2010, the range of works presented at the festival go from documentaries to love stories in the form of short and feature-length films.

Here are few film trailers of what will be playing at SFIAAFF 2010:
Raspberry Magic

The Mountain Thief

The People I’ve Slept With

I highly recommend everyone and anyone to attend the film festival. Many of the works from previous SFIAAFFs were shown in a few of my Asian American Studies classes as they represent us and it’s important to spread what we gained from these films. So many of them really do touch home.

Tickets for SFIAAFF 2010 are on sale now for CAAM members and will be on sale to the general public on Monday, February 15th.

For more information on where and how to purchase a ticket, visit here.
