Go, Joe and Heidi Wang!: The Amazing Race 16×2 Recap
Whoa, #16 already?! The absolute awesomeness that is CBS’ The Amazing Race is back and well underway to give a lucky group of people the chance to participate in the most astonishingly exciting competition ever. To be honest, I’ve never watched a full episode in its entirety before, but I’ve always dreamed of being a contestant. Until that time comes, I’ll just have to live vicariously through this season’s AA representation-sensations!
Joe and Heidi Wang are holding themselves up pretty nicely after the 2nd episode, and from the looks of it, they have an excellent chance to win the whole shebang. The married-for-11-years-couple left behind two young children (Jameson & Herason) and their comfy, cozy CA suburban life. Joe is a Taiwanese born, successful Microsoft software sales executive who puts his family on a lofty pedestal. Heidi is a former businesswoman who gave it all up to become a proudly nurturing housewife. (There is no info on her racial background, but my fledgling AA-dar informs me that she’s at least 1/4 Asian…)
What’s ironic about this bunch of contestants is that a lot of them are acting exactly like their expected stereotypes. There’s the typical naive and wholesome Caucasian grandma, the abrasively independent lesbian couple, the ditsy, downright stupid blondes and their crass, jock-y boyfriends etc., but the lone Asian couple is traveling down the path of least conventional existence. Joe is a physically and mentally strong he-man, who is equally capable of showing his softer and lightly humorous sides. Heidi lets her hubby take all the spotlight, but her quiet strength seems to belie her demure exterior. I’m sure she’ll show off her kick-assery soon enough.
The Wangs are currently in 2nd place (in Chile!) after having wrangled a stubborn llama, milked an angry, funky cow, and getting harangued by other competitors for collaborating with “the Lesbians.” Well, here’s to many more victories you two!
*I’ll have more informatively detailed recaps for later episodes
