Bollywood on ice…n-ice!

Indians are as close to ice-skating as Tila Tequila is to joining Mensa, but that might all change because of two rhythmically-oriented Caucasian sensations!

Meryl Davis and Charlie White have been just recently ranked as the #1 ice-dancing duo in the world, and they have been causing a positive uproar by incorporating traditional Indian folk dance and music into their programs. While most other American ice skaters chose to go with American country music for their Original Dance number (the pre-selected rhythm for this year’s OD was folk/country dance), Davis and White looked to Bollywood for inspiration so as to bring a stand-out fiery performance to that ice.

The You Tube videos of their performances have been viewed by hundreds and thousands of people, and Indians are clearly beaming with pride over the cross-cultural successes.

The two champions expressed great gratitude for their chance to introduce this sport to countries unfamiliar with it, and they learned a great deal about Indian culture and respectfully tried to embrace and show it off as much as they could.

Somebody get me Andrew Lloyd Weber on the phone pronto, I smell the potential of a mega-hit Broadway-on-Ice Bollywood Musical!
