Artist of the Day: Jay Sean
Oh my, hotness overload. Excuse while I go freak out like a twelve-year-old fan girl. This Indian star has arrived in America from his comfortable home in England and he is taking over the country by storm through the release of his number one hit single, “Down”.
Jay Sean was born on March 26, 1981 in Harlesden, London to a Punjabi household. His real name is Kamaljit Singh Jhooti and he derived his stage name from his MC name (MC Nicky J) and a nickname his family gave him (Shaan). Together, you have J Shaan. Get it? Ha-ha.
He had rapping for most of his childhood, but it wasn’t until two years following his entry into graduate school that he got a big deal singing contract. He released his first single, “Dance with You”, in 2003 and it hit the #12 position in UK music charts and the #2 position in Dutch charts. Following that, he became a huge hit in much of Europe, especially England.

Okay, so basically, he did become a big deal in Europe. His album, My Own Way, reached the #1 spot on the UK R&B music charts. He even featured a famous Bollywood actress (Bipasha Basu) in the music video for his hit single, “Stolen”.
After all his success in the UK, he decided to bring his fine self to the USA. He signed with Cash Money Records and released his American debut single, “Down”. Instantly, the song was a hit. Featuring top U.S. rap phenomenon, Lil Wayne, the song reached the number one spot on the Billboard Hot 100 chart as of October 17, 2009. That’s a first for any Asian singer, so I’m sure he partied hard the night he got the good news.
Sean will he releasing his first American album, All or Nothing, on November 23. It contains “Down”, all his popular singles which had been previously released in the UK, and a bunch of fresh ones, such as “Do You Remember”, featuring Sean Paul and Lil Jon. Be sure to buy the album when it comes out, alright? I’ll probably be buying 58920 just because I’m so obsessed with him. Hey, how can you blame me? He’s sexy and you know it. Well, he better know it.
